Our Town

Great things are happening in Denville.

A walkable downtown, lakes and trails, volunteers who show up, and a local government that keeps it that way.

Politics is a means to an end, and the end is a town worth living in. Denville is one. Here's some of what makes it great, and what the people in these pages have helped protect and build.

  • 420acres preserved as Jonathan Woods, the former Jersey City watershed land
  • 43years of the Denville Rotary Street Festival on Broadway
  • 7Council members and a Mayor, all elected by their neighbors
  • 12voting districts, each with Republican County Committee members

Downtown Denville

Broadway, Diamond Spring Road and Main Street are the kind of walkable, locally owned downtown most towns are trying to recreate. Denville never lost it. Restaurants, shops, the gazebo and a calendar of downtown events keep it busy all year.

Rotary Street Festival

The Denville Rotary Club's Street Festival marked its 43rd year in 2026: food, rides, live music, a beer garden and a day where the whole town ends up on the same street. It funds the Rotary's service work in Denville all year.

420 acres, protected

Jonathan Woods and open space

When 420 acres of former Jersey City watershed land could have become subdivisions, Denville's Council voted to preserve it. Today Jonathan Woods anchors a township trail system that connects parks, lakes and neighborhoods.

Where Denville lives outdoors

Lakes, parks and fields

Indian Lake, Cedar Lake, Rock Ridge and the Rockaway River give Denville a summer most towns can only drive to. Add the recreation fields, playgrounds built by volunteers, and a summer concert series, and there's always something going on.

Volunteers who show up

Denville runs on volunteers: a volunteer fire department, first aid squad, service clubs and youth sports coaches. Many of the officials on this site started there and never left.

A Mayor in the Hall of Fame

The New Jersey League of Municipalities inducted Mayor Tom Andes into its Mayors Hall of Fame in 2021 and its Elected Officials Hall of Fame in 2020, and the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions gave him its Municipal Leadership Award in 2026.
